Diamond Bessie travels back into her recurring fantasy, into a shadowy world of hotels and moral ambiguity. She calls it quits with a private eye, who she had hired to follow her lover Abraham Rothschild. Bessie delves into the fatal reason the detective's services are no longer needed, and the black world suddenly seems a little more grey.

The Unseen Ghost Brigade crashes onto a mysterious island just north of Lake Pepin. Diamond Bessie wanders through a mountain of sand, stumbling upon a bulldozer graveyard. She climbs into the cup of an excavator as the sun sets on the heavy machines. The rest of the brigade search for Bessie, and the Tramp finds her fast asleep. They wait patiently as she falls into her fantasy of betrayal and revenge, where she confronts her past and dreams of a way for her soul to finally rest.
